#Raththam
2023-Tamil
Starring : Vijay Antony, Nanditha Swetha , Mahima Nambiar, Jagan , Nizhalgal Ravi and Ramya Nambeesan
Directed by C.S.Amudhan

Plot : Kumar , a Retired Journalist comes back into the world of journalism when his best friend is murdered. When Kumar starts investigating, he uncovers a larger nexus and races against the time to stop them.

Performance wise..Vijay Antony does what he does best , his performance as the mild mannered Protagonist is so templatish that now as an audience we are used to it. Nanditha Swetha gets a meatier role and has performed well. Mahima Nambiar gets a much different role and has done well but her character development wasn't adequate.Ramya Nambeesan wasted. Jahan's One-liners work occasionally. The rest of the cast have done a decent job .

Technically, the film is a hit or miss. Kannan's Music is so forgettable (though it's just two songs) , BGMs are okayish. Gopi Amarnath's Cinematography is good but Editing by T.S.Suresh could've been much better.

On the downside, the film suffers from Slow Pacing, stretched out sequences and predictablity beyond a point. The Mediocre Acting of few characters and a slow screenplay marrs the second half terribly.

Writer Director C.S.Amudhan has touched upon a unique crime nexus story and tried to build a interesting thriller around it but unfortunately has only succeed partially. While the research and hardwork done by the director for the script is visible, unfortunately the sluggish screenplay doesn't allow them to translate on screen. The Protagonist Vs Antagonist moments which was supposed to be smart and whistle worthy , just don't get their due owing to the flat and regular screenplay.

Amudhan did have a lot of unique and interesting ideas but unfortunately they don't work all the time. Amudhan who is a pioneer in Spoof Genre has completely tried a new and serious film (which is commendable). But somewhere deep in mind , the Spoof Director persona has been instilled and due to that we cannot differentiate as what is spoof and what is serious.

Highlights :
1)Nexus Investigation Sequences

Overall: Raththam is a Decent Thriller that talks about a unique crime but due to it's technical weakness and lackluster screenplay, the film fails to become a Interesting Thriller. Vijay Antony tries his best to save it but beyond a point he's unable to.
