#TheyCallHimOG
2025 - Telugu
Starring : Pawan Kalyan, Emraan Hashmi, Priyanka Arul Mohan , Prakash Raj , Shriya Reddy and Arjun Das
Directed by Sujeeth
Plot : A lost container of RDX ignites a fierce gang war between Satya Dada and Mirakar in Mumbai, forcing Satya Dada to call back his loyal aide Ojas Gambheera, who has lived away from violence for ten long years. But with Omi’s arrival, the war gets more brutal causing more personal loses to OG and Satya Dada. Who is Ojas Gambheera? What past does he share with Satya Dada? And who is Omi? How OG confronts Omi and protects Bombay forms the rest of the story.

Performance wise , Pawan Kalyan as Ojas Gambheera carries the entire movie in his shoulder. His earnest performance and massive screen presence shoulders the entire film. Though his screentime was relatively less, his presence was felt throughout. Emraan Hashmi as OMI is menacing and has insane screen presence but unfortunately his character is writing in a very underwhelming manner . While the character had great scope , the writing bogged it down. Nevertheless, Emraan gave an honest performance that works largely.
Priyanka Arul Mohan as Kanmani doesn't have much to do in the plot and has done a decent job. Though her pairing with PK looked a bit odd , her arc was pretty decent.Prakash Raj as Satya Dada does what he usually does the best. A Controlled performance. Shriya Reddy gets a meaty role and has performed well. Arjun Das in a minor role does well. Supporting cast like Vincent Asokhan, Harish Uttaman , Sudev Nair , Saurav Lokesh and Abhimanyu Singh do a good job , nothing stands out but decent performance.

Technically, the film is powerful and impressive. Kudos to Ravi K. Chandran and Manoj Paramahamsa for delivering a visually stunning experience through their cinematography. Another standout element is Thaman’s pulsating music, which amplifies the impact of numerous scenes and makes them whistleworthy for audience. Editing by Navin Nooli looks a bit haphazard at times and could've been better. Some VFX looks good , some feels dated and very less authentic.

The film opens with the introduction of how the World War has an effect on Japan and how the Yakuzaa's ruled the underworld. Then the plot shifts to Bombay and introduces us to Ojas , Satya and Mirakar and shows their rise. While the Setup feels different and unique, the following proceedings feel very cliched and follows a similar path. While PK's intro scene is blast on screen (visually and metaphorically) , the following proceedings feel flat and lacks emotional depth. The Romantic track between leads though has an emotional undertone, feels very artificial and somewhat awkward. The Antagonist reveal sequence is great. Also the surprisingly, the screentime of PK in the First half was relatively very less but as I had mentioned, his presence was felt throughout. The First Half Action Choreography was terrific and felt like a proper fan tribute to PK. The Pre Interval fight though was a bit over the top , felt visually stunning especially the pre Interval shot and interval shot were stunning on screen marking it as a goosebumps sequence.
Unfortunately the Second half doesn't hold the momentum and begins to slip. Talking about the Negatives, the Second half lacked the momentum and felt like the story was not moving forward beyond a point. The Emotional arc involving Arjun Das , Shriya Reddy and PK comes towards the Tad end of Secone Half and by the time it comes , the emotional connectivity is lost. Also the reveal of David Bhai felt unintentionally funny. While there is a connection with another film which ties them both into the same universe, the connection felt unnecessary. Also there are a lot of sequences that felt were shot seperately and stitched together which makes them lackluster.

Coming to Writer Director Sujeeth, he has crafted an out and out Fanboy film for PK which rides high on elevation. While the reference to Johnny and Travelling Soldier felt great, Sujeeth could've focused a bit more on writing a complex story and screenplay as this story has rhe potential for it. The Setup looked intriguing but the screenplay and proceedings felt very normal and cliched. It wasn't necessarily boring, it was entertaining for sure but felt like a PK tribute video rather than a sincere Action film.
Highlights :
1)OG Intro Scene
2)Pre Interval Fight & Interval Fight
3) Colaba Police station scene
4) Johnny & Travelling Soldier
5) Waashi oh Waashi sequence

Overall: They Call Him OG is an Average Action drama that rides high on elevations. High on Style , Medium On Substance. A Pure out and out Fanboy film for PK by Sujeeth , keep that in mind and you might be entertained.
