#Karuppu
2026- Tamil
Starring : Suriya, RJ Balaji, Trisha , Natty , Indrans , Anagaha Ravi , Swasika & Sshivada
Directed by RJ Balaji
Plot : When an ordinary man is trapped and betrayed by a corrupt judicial system, he turns to Lord Karuppusaamy who descends to challenge the injustice and confront the corrupt judge behind it all.

Performance wise , Suriya as Karuppusaamy is absolutely Terrific and literally shoulders the entire film . His screen presence and regal is phenomenal . Though his Screen Time is a little less , whenever he's on screen its absolutely fire. RJB as Baby Kannan the Opposite Lawyer is surprisingly great. RJB pulls off his Negative Character performance so convincingly. The character is psychotic and unpredictable and RJB makes it believable. Trisha as Female Protagonist gets a typical sidekick role without much to perform. Some scenes of Trisha was good but needed better writing. Indrans and Anagha Maya Ravi do a fabulous job as the emotional anchor of the film. Natty in a Negative Role is really good but again under - written role. Sshivada good role and good performance. Swasika wasted .

Technically, the film is fantastic. Thanks to a Peak Cinematography by G.K.Vishnu which visually elevates the film to the next level. Each scene look visually fantastic. Sai Abhyankkar's Songs and BGMs are a bit loud but as a Elevation track everything works perfectly. Editing by R.Kalaivannan is good but Second half needed some fast paced cuts. The VFX at times is decent but at times looked cheap.
The Film opens with introduction of Indrans and Anagaha Maya Ravi and how circumstances make them reach out to Court. Here we get the introduction of Trisha & RJB which sets up the premise of the film. While the first 40 mins largely focus on the emotional setup, it works. The Introduction of Karuppusaamy was phenomenal but felt a bit abrupt also. Post that we get a very interesting plot point that unfolds between the Protagonist & Antagonist. Post this the film becomes a Commercial Courtroom Drama that works mainly with some references and callbacks to films such as Aayutha Ezhuthu , Jai Bheem or even Sillunu Oru Kaddhal makes the Audience especially Suriya Fans berserk on Theatre. The Pre Interval Emotional Block by Indrans work and the Interval Fight by Suriya is absolutely fantastic. That works as the Subjects heart piece as Vadivelu used to say. That scene , the VFX Transition & Sai's BGM makes it a peak Interval Bang.

Post that, the Second Half stumbles a bit as it tries to mix Emotional Drama , Courtroom Drama & Fan Service Moments. While the God Mode Placement and dance is fantastic, it feels like a deviation. And The Second Half largely focused on Fan Moments & Fan Service rather than the main plot. The Climax is absolutely Carnage with a Insane Cameo and Peak Performance.
Talking about the Negatives , the film suffers from an Identity crisis as it confuses as what it wants to be. Does it want to be a Divine God Film? A Mass Courtroom Drama ? A Spoof ? Or Fan service film? Due to this the film shifts gears frequently. Also the Emotional Core & Conviction present in the First Half felt missing in the Latter half which mainly focuses on Fan Service Moment & High Points rather than giving closure to the stories. Also some Characters felt under-written . The film had a couple of Interesting Ideas but sadly the film tries to play in the safe zone rather than exploring on that ideas. The VFX felt cheap at time which needed better polishing.

Coming to Writer Director RJ Balaji, the plot seems like a spiritual sequel to RJB's Mookuthi Amman and has taken inspiration from several other films like Liar Liar and Oh My God but mixes all for a Out and out commercial pot boiler that is aimed at satisfying the fans which he does successfully. While the film does have some writing flaws here and there , the mass scenes and fan service over shadows the negatives and makes the film a satisfying watch for families & neutral audience and a peak fest for Anbaana Fans.
Overall : Karuppu is a good fantasy commerical drama that is anchored by Suriya & RJb that aims to deliver what it promised. While it may not work for everyone, the Theatrical experience in a packed theatre will be worth your money

Rating : 2.75-3/5
