2026- Tamil
Starring : Legend Saravanan , Shaam , Santhosh Pratap , Andrea Jeremiah, Lal , Payal Rajput and Amrita Aiyer
Directed by Durai Senthil Kumar
Plot : Sakthivel lives peacefully with his daughter Irene in Thoothukudi. A dreaded gangster called Devil smuggles a mysterious container into the port and pulls him into chaos. As the police start digging into the case, they realise Sakthivel is not just an ordinary man, but someone who has a connection with the Devil himself. Who Sakthivel really is, what that connection is, and what’s inside the container and how Sakthivel stops Devil's Masterplan forms the rest of the story.
Performance wise , Legend Saravanan as Sakthivel has done a fairly decent job. His performance is much better than his debut film. He has improved a bit in acting and emotional scenes but still there is a long way to go. Santhosh Pratap gets a tricky role and has performed really well. Shaam gets a decent role and has performed well. Andrea has a meaty role and makes a commendable performance. Payal Rajput Decent role and good performance. Lal very small role but good presence. Amritha Aiyer also same.
Technically, the film is pretty strong. Ghibran's Songs are mid while BGMs are fantastic. The Cinematography by Venkatesh S is pretty substandard that isn't great or bad . Editing especially in the Second half could've been a little bit more sharper. VFX at times felt very amateurish.
The Film opens with introduction of Devil and the importance of the Container for his mission. Cut to, the film introduces about Sakthivel and the bond he shares with his daughter Irene. These portions are pretty cliched and follows the old beats. There is an important fact about the Protagonist in that Portion is revealed but unfortunately it is not explored properly. Once Indira character and Bhakthavatsalam character enters the film actually gets into the content. The Pacing is definitely a slight issue here but largely the film doesn't feel boring. The Pre Interval Container scene with Muthai Thiru song was absolutely fantastic, and the Pre Interval Reveal felt again very cliched but the presentation was pretty good.
About the Second Half , the film dives into the backstory of Sakthivel and his history with Devil. While the backstory isn't as great or unique, it looks good for Saravanan atleast. Payal Rajput gets a good role ,same for Lal too. Post the Flashback the film actually picks up pace again. There is a scene that can be dubbed as Poor Man's Jailer with Shaam, O.A.K Sunthar & Mahandhi Shankar it was fun . Not very smart one but fun. There is a very small Emotional scene in a Church and actually Legend does it decently (much better than Legend). The Climax Twist is a make or break, if it works for you then film works but if it doesn't then the film might not work. The Climax Stunt Choreography in Vande Baharat is great but had more potential to be more violent but they stuck to a more family friendly way.
Talking about Negatives , the films Narration especially towards the Second Half feels a bit confusing with reference to timelines. There are n number of twists and reveals especially in second half but again everything comes as a Make or Break! If it works then great but if it doesn't there's high chance the film might feel overboard beyond a point. Also the film's dubbing felt off as there was a lot of synch issues at many places. The Film needed better casting especially in the Second Half Flashback.
Talking About Writer Director R.Durai Senthil Kumar , he has smartly gauged what Legend is capable of and what are his limitations to craft a film around that and has largely succeed in that. The Film's core plot might be cliched or something we have seen before but the execution is a little bit different. Ofcourse there are some flaws here and there but DSK has made a decent commercial entertainer that works majorly keeping up his streak with Ethirneechal , Kakki Sattai, Kodi & Garudan. Legend Saravana has definitely improved but needs more training... But as of now this is good.
Overall: Leader is a pretty decent Commercial entertainer that is fairly engaging and shows Legend Annachi in a New Dimension. Not a Generational Film etc but a good entertaining film.
Rating : 2.5-2.75/5
