#CaptainAmerica:BraveNewWorld Review
Captain America: Brave New World
2025- English
Starring : Anthony Mackie , Harrison Ford , Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Lumbly and Shira Hass
Directed By Julius Onah
Plot: After the events of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is the new Captain America, and Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross is now U.S. President. When an attack on the White House leads to Isaiah Bradley being framed, Sam sets out to uncover the truth. His search pulls him into an international conspiracy over Adamantium, a powerful metal emerging from the Celestial Island. As global tensions rise, Sam must expose the real mastermind and uncover Ross’s darkest secret before it's too late.
Performance wise , Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka New Captain America looks really good. The bets part is he doesn't try to imitate Chris Evans and instead does what he does regularly. Though the Comparison is inevitable, his performance showing the inner turmoil whether he is worthy of this position is translated perfectly on screen. Harrison Ford as Ross is terrific. The way her performs as Ross who is under political pressure shows that how much of a seasoned actor he is. Though his Red Hulk Animation in finale looks a bit off , his performance peaks. Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres is fantastic. His Comic timing and reactions is enjoyable and is fun on screen. An actor like Giancarlo who has terrific screen presence is unfortunately wasted as Sidewinder who doesn't create much of an impact. Tim Blake Nelson as the Leader is also underutilized due to weak writing. Shira Hass as Ruth Bat-Saraph comes as a Surpise and does a really good job. Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley also does a pretty good job.
Technically the film is pretty decent. Thanks to wonderful Cinematography by Kramer Morgenthau. While the editing feels substandard by Matthew and Gavine , the edit especially during Celestial Island stunt sequences were brilliant. Music by Karpman were pretty decent. VFX was good at places and substandard at the climax. Wasn't so glaring but could've been much much better.Probably the Reshoots in Third Act has messed up the edit pattern and VFX sequence which is seen on screen.
The Film starts of with the Introduction of Ross as the President and giving the insight of the Celestial Island which was an aftermath of events from "Eternals (2021)" and how it has changed the political stances of varioius countries involving in this. Then we are introduced to the methods of how the new Captain America works with his new Falcon and their dynamics. While this doesn't match with the Original Combo of Steve and Sam , this duo (Sam & Joaquin) try their best and somewhat works. Their Camaraderie is fun and entertaining on screen. Post this we are introduced to Serpents and their leader Sidewinder. While the following actions trigger a Political conspiracy, the film moves fast from there. There were no unwated scenes as the film understands the importance of the situations and the screenplay quickly moves from events to events without much boredom. Everything goes fine till the Third Act.
Talking about the Negatives, the Entire Third Act of Captain vs Red Hulk seems very rushed and just kept for the shock value. There is no proper backstory or anything to feel the depth of Red Hulk character. Maybe this might be due to character recasting also. Recasting someone who we've seen for so long and suddenly new person playing it doesn't translate the emotional depth the character holds on screen properly . Also the Reshoots , especially the Third Act look so visible that it hinders edit pattern. Many shoots are taken seperately and attached and that can be spotted easily. Also Tim Blake Nelson as the Antagonist is written so weakly that we are not able to connect with his reason. His Reason for the Conspiracy is told clearly but seems like it was underplayed for some reason. Also there's this interesting Inner Turmoil that Sam faces whether he is worthy of the Shield or not , which is a brilliant subplot but again unfortunately it is merely used as an motivation scene rather than fully exploring the dynamics of his mindset.
Director Julius Onah and writers Rob Edwards,Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson have taken a very simple Political Conspiracy plot and tried to infuse the Superhero subject on it. While on the whole it works largely, somewhere the fusion of genres felt incomplete. Neither it is an 100% Political Thriller nor a 100% MCU Superhero film. Somewhere it lingers in between. With a much tighter Screenplay and better Third act and ending the film could've been a worthy successor of Captain America Steve Rogers Trilogy and could've started a Great New Trilogy . But the Film aims at many things and lands at few.
Highlights:
1)Sam as Captain
2) Celestial Island Fight Sequence
3) Surprise cameo in Hospital
4) White House Finale Fight
Overall : Captain America: Brave New World is a Decent Superhero Political Thriller that needed a better writing but is greatly spearheaded by a Terrific Anthony Mackie and a Brilliant Harrison Ford. Will definitely work largely for MCU fans , but a bit doubtful for General Audience who expect a Good Political Thriller/Superhero Film.
Rating : 2.75-3/5
