2024- Tamil
Starring : Sivakarthikeyan , Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose , Lallu and Bhuvan Arora
Directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy

Plot: The film follows the courageous journey of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, an army officer who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Jammu & Kashmir.

Performance wise , SK as Mukund has given a career best performance. His physical transformation is fantastic and has really given a mature performance. On the other side Sai Pallavi as Indu Rebecca Varghese, Mukund's Better half is just phenomenal in her performance. The angst , the Pain , the sorrow , the yearning etc , She just performed beautifully and infact lived as Indu Rebecca. Rahul Bose as Mukund's Commander has done a really good job. Limited role but man gave his best. Bhuvan Arora gets a strong and equal important role and has done a good job. Shree Kumar and Lallu good roles. Premalu Shyam gets a typecasted role. Special Appreciation to those actors who played Mukund's Parents roles and Indu's Father role. They did a fantastic job.

Technically the film is really strong. CH Sai's Cinematography is just amazing. The way he showcases J&K Valleys and Hills are just beautiful. Editing by Kalaivanan could've been a bit Coherent. Some sequences looks like they've been stitched in hurry. Ofcourse they had a flow but the flow lacked the cohesiveness . GV Prakash's songs are really good . Hey Minnale is fantastic and Azaadi Rap is great but other than songs are good to hear on the moment but does not get registered in mind. Great work in BGM too.
Minimal Usage of CGI and maximum usage of Practical FX looks really grandeur on screen.

The First Half begins with a banger intro sequence and slowly shifts into Mukund's College days and his relationship dynamics with Indu. While these portions were adorable on screen , the core plot kicks in much much later when Mukund gets into Army. While the first half doesn't waste time or meander, the film slowly takes proceedings forward slowly. Doesn't necessarily mean that it was lagging. The interval comes at a peak point where theatrically and story wise it serves as a proper midpoint and hero elevation point.

Then the film moves into Second Half which gets completely serious mode. While First half had some lighter moments here and there, second half is devoid of any such moments. The Second half mainly moves towards the epic climatic showdown and Major Mukund's final Operation.

Talking about the negatives of the film , the film lacks cohesiveness in terms of screenplay at times. Though it's a Biopic and talks only about certain aspects that happened in Major's life, the screenplay could've been woven into that. Instead of that we get like a forwarded sequences that happen in Major's life. The lack of a proper antagonist also hits this film but the film being an biopic based on a true character , the flaw cannot be properly justified or questioned.

Director Rajkumar Periyasamy has taken the core plot of an Army Man's Journey from his entry into Army till his ultimate sacrifice. It is very difficult to crack a proper biopic as sometimes it kind of becomes like a double edged sword, but Rajkumar has achieved it partially right. While emotions and highs are conveyed properly, the lack of a connected screenplay can make the audience disconnect for a while. But leaving aside all the facts, Amaran comes out as a proper theatrical film experience that makes audience cry out and feel for Army Veterans.

Highlights :
1)SK & Sai Pallavi Career best performance
2) High Production values
3) Pre Interval Sequence
4) Achamillai 44. RR Sequence
5) Climax 5 mins

Overall: Amaran is a decent biopic that strongly pillared by Sk and Sai Pallavi's fantastic performance. Must watch
