#Shaitaan
2024- Hindi
Starring : Ajay Devgn , R.Madhavan , Jyothika , Janki Bodiwala and Angad Raaj
Directed by Vikas Bahl
Plot : Kabir and his family arrive at their Farmhouse at a remote Hill station for their weekend. Their Fun is short-lived when a Mysterious Man named Vanraj arrives at their doorstep asking for help. Things take an ugly turn when Vanraj starts to hypnotize and control their Elder Daughter Jahnvi. Who is Vanraj? What is his ulterior motive with Jahnvi ? How does Kabir save his family from Vanraj forms the rest of the story.
Performance wise With Limited Casting, Everyone has done a fabulous job. Ajay Devgn as the brave yet helpless Kabir has done a wonderful performance. Jyotika as a fearing and daring mother has given a good performance. But the Showstealers are the Menacing Vanraj played by R Madhavan and a Hypnotized Jahnvi played by Janki Bodiwala. Madhavan has done the role with such ease yet the sense of terror and panic remain the same whenever he appears on screen. Janki aa a confused Jahnvi has pulled off a complex role beautifully. The Character is Two Sided and confusing yet the portrayal was brilliant. Angad Raaj as Younger Son performed well.

Technically, the Film is Sleek. Cinematography by Sudhakar Reddy is fantastic. Though the film majorly takes place in a Single Location, It doesn't get repetitive or boring. Thanks to a Unique Cinematography by Sudhakar and a Sleek Editing by Sandeep Francis. Amit Trivedi's Music especially the BGMs in important scenes help the scene to elevate to a much scarier perspective.
VFX was minimal yet decent.

On the Downside, The Film's Content feels like it was written for a Short Film. Though there are enough scenes to imply the Danger, Largely the scenes felt like a filler. What could've been finished within a 60-90 minutes movie feels stretched out as a 120 mins movie. Also the Antagonist's Motives weren't clearly established and kind of felt ambiguous which can or cannot sit well with all the audience.

Director Vikas Bahl has cleverly collaboratored with Writer Aamil Keeyan Khan to craft the Adapted Screenplay and Dialogues which actually work out really well.Vikas Bahl has succeeded in crafting a Tensed yet a gripping screenplay that captures the tension of the concept successfully. Though the Last Act might feek stretched and Predictable at times , Shaitaan comes out as a Unique Black Magic Thriller that smartly disguises itself as a Home Invasion Thriller.

Highlights :
1)Career Best Performance of Madhavan and Janki Bodiwala
2)Subtle yet Powerful performances by Ajay Devgn and Jyothika
3)Amit Trivedi's Eerie and Haunting BGMs
4)Stretched yet Smart Last Act

Overall : Shaitaan is a gripping thriller that heavily relies on the performances of Madhavan and Janki Bodiwala who give on of their career best performance. The Smart and Cleverly crafted Screenplay is praiseworthy. A Decent watch
