#PonniyinSelvan2 Review
#PonniyinSelvan2
Starring : Chiyaan Vikram , Jayam Ravi , Karthi , Trisha , Aishwarya Rai , Sarathkumar , Parthiban , Vikram Prabhu , Prabhu, Jayaram, Rahaman and Prakash Raj
Directed by Mani Ratnam
Plot : The Film picks up from the place where Part 1 Ended , Arunmozhi and Vanthiyathevan are saved from the Shipwreck and how they come back on field and deal with the Political Conspiracies for Chola Throne with Aaditha Karikalan and Kundhavai forms the rest of the crux.
Chiyaan as Aaditha Karikalan has just lived his role. His confrontation scene with Aishwarya Rai was just aesthetically and beautifully shot and acted. Jayam Ravi as Ponniyin Selvan is too apt with his royal performance. He just graces and is fantastic. Karthi is Vanthiyathevan is quick witted and funny and is enjoyable max. Trisha as Kundhavai is clever and good. Aishwarya Rai as both Mandakini Devi and Nandhini is so Fantastically portrayed by her. Once again she proves why she is the best. Rest of the cast like Prakash Raj, Jayaram , Rahaman, etc all get small scope and perform really well. But unfortunately characters like Shobhitha , Aishu and Ashwin Kakumanu are wasted without any scope.
Technically the movie is strong. ARRs Music and BGMs are extraordinary. Ravi Varman's Cinematography is breathtaking. Fantastic Locations. Editing by Sreekar Prasad could've been a bit faster. It looked pretty choppier in first half.
Mani Ratnam's has taken the core plot from the book and has changed the film especially in the second half a lot from the source material. This change might be okay for Non Readers of the book but might not go well with those Readers. The Film's Pacing is much much slower than 1st Part. The Film gradually takes it's time to get into the core conflict. It takes time to continue building the character arcs which was established in Pt 1.
The Film definitely is not like Pt.1 , it is much more deeper and slow burn political drama around the throne. The Film's slowness might not go well with everyone. The film's length is also noticable. And Horrible VFX at times drops down the intensity. But a Surreal Experience Story telling and fantastic Perfomances help this masterpiece.
Highlights :
1) Opening Sequence with Chinanjiru Nilavey
2)Pre Interval Sequence with Arunmozhi Varman
3)Karikaalan - Nandhini Confrontation Sequence
4)Final War Sequence
Overall : PS 2 is a Slowburn Political Epic Drama that takes time to unfold and nothing in short of epic storytelling . The Visuals are fantastic . The Ending could've been much better and could've been similar to the source material ... nevertheless it's a Visually Stunning Masterpiece supported by a Slew of Fantastic Perfomances
