Plot : Vijay Rajendran , the youngest son of a Business Tycoon Rajendran stays away from the family due to ideological differences between him and his father. When he returns for a Family Functions, he learns a shocking truth and devastating postion of the family & their business and decides to help them and get back on track.

Thalapathy Vijay's One Man Show is Varisu ! The man is in terrific form with Over the Top Body Language and Humour. Definitely a Feel good (sometimes a bit over) performance by Thalapathy. Rashmika as Heroine has the most substandard role ever . She oozes glamour in the songs but boozes her role throughout the film. Sarathkumar as the father gets a meaty role and has done a good job. Prakash Raj as Antagonist has very less role and has done a decent job. Remaining cast like Shaam , Srikanth, Sangeetha , Samyukta have done a good job in the limited and one dimensional character. Yogi Babu's One liners with Vijay and Jayasudha's Emotional Dialogues stand out.

Cinematography by Kartik Palani is decent. Editing by Praveen KL could've been better.
Thaman's Thumping BGM and Pretty Good songs help a lot to set the tone of the movie , but Jimikki Ponnu could've been trimmed.

Writers Hari and Solomon have taken a generic a Concept and spun it around the Charisma of Thalapathy Vijay and it works upto an extent. Sadly the film follows a Tried and tested path beyond a point . The film falls into the predictability web right from the first scene. The Film's Weak Antagonist and mediocre conflicts make the second half a average watch. Vamshi's making is good but the One Dimensional Characters and a predictable screenplay with a Horrible VFX make the film a average watch. Being a Emotional Entertainer the film doesn't hit the emotional chords properly. None of the scenes were hard hitting nor deeply emotional.

Highlights:
1) Terrific BGMS by Thaman
2)Board Room Sequence (seems copied from AVPL but works uptill an extent)
3) S J Suriyah Cameo
4)Interval Bang (Predictable yet Entertaining)

The Film falls into a lot of Logical Loopholes which actually makes no sense when we think about it post the film. Ofcourse it's a Commercial Film but a bit more better characterization, a stronger antagonist and threat , a Engaging Screenplay that not only completely relies on Vijay could've made this a compelling Family Drama .

Overall :
#Varisu is a Quintessential Thalapathy Festival  Release that heavily relies on Vijay's Charisma and Energy to uplift this Commerical Family Potboiler . A Harmless Watch with very low expectations (might not work for everyone).

Verdict : Predictable & Cliched yet Entertaining
