Cirkus Review

#Cirkus
2022-Hindi-Theatre
Starring : Ranveer Singh , Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez , Varun Sharma , Sanjay Mishra , Johnny Lever , Murali Sharma, Mukesh Tiwari and Sidharth Jadhav
Directed by Rohit Shetty
Based on Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors

Plot : Two Sets of Identical Twins (Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma) are interchanged and share the same names (Roy &Joy). When the Seperated set of twins arrive in the same Town Ooty , confusion arises between who is who .

Ranveer Singh is energetic and charming. Shows clear variation between Two Twins where one is kind of meek and another one is brave. But at parts his acting feels a bit awkward. Varun Sharma gets a meaty role and does well. Pooja Hegde looks cute and performs decently. Jacqueline doesn't have much scope, a mere template character. Comedians like Johny Lever , Sanjay Mishra , Sidharth Jadhav get a solid role but the dialogues are very outdated so the jokes don't land properly. Out of all the comedians Sanjay Mishra gets a couple of gags correctly . Deepika's Cameo was too good and her dance was fantastic.

Cinematography by Jomon T John looks pleasing at places but looks very fake & typical. The Artwork looks so stereotypical that we don't even get to belive that it was Truly Bengaluru or Ooty in the 60s. Editing by Bunty Nagi could've been much better and crispier .

Music by DJ Chetas , DSP and Baadshah was decent. While Current Laga re by DJ Chetas was fantastic , remaining 2 songs Sun Zara and Aashiq doesn't hit the right chords...BGMs were good.

The biggest problem with Cirkus was the screenplay. The film which should be chaotic and funny actually is not. While the first half was dull and boring the monotony is broken with the pre interval song . While the film promises it has potential to be funny in the second half , unfortunately doesn't. Rohit Shetty's Treatment of the comedy becomes so dull and drab and moreover outdated where out of 100 jokes you can only chuckle for 2-3 maximum. In a Comedy Of Erros the chaotic climax sequence is the biggest highlight but here that's also Missing. Instead the film becomes a boring Social Drama that goes to give a commentary about that bloodline doesn't define a person's character, the parentage only defines it. This can be easily termed as Rohit Shetty's Weakest work in recent times.

Overall: Cirkus is a Dull and Dry Comedy that tries to be confusingly funny but lacks conviction and better execution. Misses the Rohit Shetty Mark.
Rating : 2.25/5

Also the Post Credit scene of introducing Another Film Franchise into this was whistelworthy but was it important??
